Christina Alves, MD, PhD, FEBOT (Portugalia)
Dr Cristina Alves is the Head of the Department of Paediatric Orthopaedics at Coimbra’s Paediatric Hospital in Portugal. She graduated in Medicine from the University of Coimbra in 1996 and became passionate about paediatric orthopaedics during her residency training in Funchal. She completed visiting Fellowships at Barcelona’s Hospital Sant Joan de Déu, Iowa University Hospitals and Clinics, and San Diego Childrens’ Hospital. She completed her Clinical Fellowship in Paediatric Orthopaedics at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. She also obtained a Masters of Science in Clinical Epidemiology and Health Care Research at the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation, University of Toronto.
Dr Alves has worked in Coimbra since 2011. Her clinical activities and interests are focused on bone tumors, DDH, clubfoot, lower limb deformities, and cerebral palsy. She has published several articles in scientific journals and collaborates as a faculty in national and international congresses and courses, namely EPOS BAT Courses.
She is a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Children’s Orthopedics and serves in the Medical Advisory Board of the Ponseti International Association. She has been the Chair of EPOS Scientific Committee, Editor of the Portuguese Journal of Orthopedics, and President of the Portuguese Society of Paediatric Orthopedics. She has recently finished her term as Councilor at the EPOS Executive Committee.
